Center for Patient Safety’s Just Culture Training

Just Culture is a framework that helps providers identify resident safety issues while also letting them address poor behavioral choices by employees. It can help improve morale and reduce turnover. This day-long managers’ training includes a thorough introduction to Just Culture and a workbook and other tools to take home. Attendees will work together to apply the principles and determine appropriate actions to address real scenarios.

RAI Manual Update

On February 5, 2015, CMS posted a new Errata document on the RAI manual page of their website.  It is designed so that you can remove the old page of the RAI and insert the new corrected page.  The revisions to pages in Chapter 2 & 3 clarify the meaning of entry/reentry and the coding for A1600, A1700, A1800 and A1900.  You can find the revised pages on CMS’s website by clicking here.

CMS Announces Important Changes to Nursing Home Compare Website

CMS has announced that they are preparing to make changes to the Nursing Home Compare website this month.  Specific changes include:

  • Addition of two (2) quality measures for antipsychotic medication use in nursing homes to the Five Star rating system calculations.
  • Raising the standard for nursing homes to achieve a high rating on all measures publicly reported in the Quality Measure (QM) dimension on the website
  • Adjustment of the algorithm used for calculating staffing ratings to more accurately reflect staffing levels.

CMS discussed these important changes and the impact on the Five Star rating system during the CMS Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNF)/Long Term Care (LTC) Open Door Forum that was held Thursday, February 12, 2015.

FCSR Fee Increase

Effective March 1, 2015, the Family Care Safety Registry Worker Registration fee will increase to $12.00.  The fee increase results from a change in state law and is required by the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Worker Registration forms submitted with the incorrect fee, postmarked on or after March 1, 2015,will be returned. Updated Worker Registration Forms will be available no later than February 15, 2015, or may be obtained by contacting the FCSR toll free at 866-422-6872.

New Resource on Resident to Resident Mistreatment

Aggression between residents of long-term care facilities is a serious, yet often hidden, problem.  All residents have the right to be free from all forms of abuse, neglect, and exploitation, and have rights if they have been subject to mistreatment.  Newly released from the National Consumer Voice for Quality Long-Term Care and the National Center on Elder Abuse, this brochure identifies types of mistreatment, shares information about an individual’s rights, and offers resources on where they can go for help.

Adult Day Care Program Manual

The Adult Day Care Program Manual was developed for our Adult Day Care providers to meet statutory requirements.  The purpose of this manual is designed to provide guidance and establish uniformity across the state in meeting the requirements of sections 192.2200, RSMo to 192.2260, RSMo and 19 CSR 30-90 Adult Day Care Program Licensure related to the provision of adult day care.  The Adult Day Care Program Manual was developed in partnership with DHSS, DSDS, ADC associations, MO HealthNet, Missouri Medicaid Audit & Compliance, and DMH.
