CMS National Database Extended Downtime

All QIES systems will be down from Wednesday, March 16 after 7:00 P.M. (Central) through Monday, March 21 2016 at 10:49 (Central).  This downtime will affect all QIES connectivity and systems.  The National database will not be available.  CASPER reports will not be available.

An email blast regarding this extended downtime was sent out to the provider community on January 21, 2016.  The email recommended that providers plan their business needs around this downtime and submit their resident assessments early.  Notices have also been posted on the QIES Systems for Providers webpages regarding the extended downtime.

F323, Free of Accident Hazards/Supervision/Devices, is one of the most frequently cited deficiencies nationally.  The intent of the requirement is to ensure that the long-term care (LTC) provider maintains an environment free from hazards and provides appropriate supervision for each resident to prevent avoidable accidents.  Implementation of key systems and processes can avert potential accidents, improve quality of care, and boost compliance with the regulation.  The implementation of key systems and processes helps improve the quality of care delivered and increase compliance.

March 2, 2016:  Interdisciplinary Approach to Continence Improvement
Presenter:  Kathleen Weissberg from Select Rehabilitation
All health care disciplines have a role in skilled intervention to treat continence.  This webinar provides an overview of anatomy and physiology of normal voiding as well as normal function related to continence.  Different types of incontinence are identified and assessment/treatment strategies are offered for each.  This course takes an interdisciplinary approach to continence improvement and demonstrates roles of each team member.  Emphasis is placed on the role of nursing in completing an assessment of voiding, identifying triggers and bladder stimulants, voiding habits and patterns, and implementing individualized care approaches.  Restorative and compensatory strategies for continence management are reviewed as well as the unique role of physical/occupational therapy in this program.  Documentation and care planning related to behavioral aspects of continence improvement are reviewed.

This workshop will look at the RAI process from beginning to end.  The MDS is used for both a clinical assessment and a financial assessment and this workshop will discuss the rules on scheduling these assessments and meeting the requirements individually and combined. Item-by-item coding will be reviewed.  From coding the MDS, we will then look at the CAA to care plan process.

This one day workshop will begin with how to gain access to and read the MDS reports from CASPER in order to self-audit your RAI process. The completion of the MDS is becoming more and more difficult and confusing. This workshop will help the MDS coordinator and other members of the interdisciplinary team to understand the admitting criteria and the ongoing documentation needs of the Medicare resident. The RAI process in relationship to Medicare is also confusing and errors can be a financial nightmare for facilities. This workshop will help clear up the confusion surrounding this process.
