Nursing Home Training Session: Exploring Antibiotics and Their Role in Fighting Bacterial Infections

This nursing home training session provides information on the basics of antibiotics, their functionality, potential risks and side effects, general considerations for usage and prescribing and an introduction to why using antibiotics appropriately is important.

This session is the first in a six-part series to support nursing homes in implementing antibiotic stewardship as well as preventing and managing Clostridium difficile infections. (1.5 Nursing Contact Hours Available)

MU Enhances Leadership Development Academy (ELDA)

November 2017-May 2018

A professional development certificate program for RNs, NHAs and Social Workers using a proven curriculum to improve leadership behaviors with a combination of face-to-face meetings and two webinars. Offered over 7 months, it features an innovative and evidence-based curriculum with a strong focus on application to practice and peer consultation.

This will be the last time the ELDA will be taught in a face-to-face format. If you prefer to learn in a live classroom, be sure to enroll now. Beginning in Spring/Summer 2018, we are pleased and excited to offer the ELDA in a mostly online format. You will receive a separate mailing on this option.

The Provider Meetings will continue to be held in two sessions, the first session will be for Residential Care Facilities/Assisted Living Facilities, and the second session will be for Skilled Nursing Facilities/Intermediate Care Facilities. This year in order to avoid repetition in the program we will conduct a combined session for all provider types to cover topics of interest relevant to all levels of care. The combined session will run from 10:15 until noon. Registration is not required. CEU’s will be available for Nursing Home Administrators.

 

Presentation handouts – As in previous years, handouts will not be provided at each meeting.  It is your responsibility to print them and bring them to the meeting if you desire.

Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs) cut across all care settings – acute, ambulatory and long-term. All settings are currently (or soon will be) required to have an infection control and prevention program including an antimicrobial stewardship plan. These workshops will provide the latest evidence regarding the prevention of HAIs across settings with a strong focus on incorporating this evidence in clinical practice. Regulatory considerations and specific strategies to bridge the gap in coordinating care when patients transition from one setting to another will be included.
